Winter, two days or more

Arctic Adventure

A hiking tour of several days in the fells of Northern Norway. With an experienced local guide you can do it safely, even in winter.

The idea is simple: experience the nature the way locals do. We go up into the mountains on snowshoes or skis and pull our gear in expedition pulks. We sleep in a tent, a heated tipi or hammocks, depending on conditions and what you prefer.

The route follows your wishes and fitness, and the weather. Ice fishing, bird hunting or a hike to a summit can all be part of the trip.

Example itineraries

Two ways a trip can look. Yours is planned with you.

  1. Day 1

Arrive in Nordkjosbotn at 11:30, by local bus 100 from Tromsø or by car. Pack the gear and hike about two hours up to a lake surrounded by mountains. Set up camp, cook dinner on the fire and fish through the ice. With luck, the northern lights come out. A longer snowshoe walk in the evening is possible. Sleep in a tent heated by a wood stove.

  2. Day 2

Break camp after breakfast. Take an extra hike in the mountains or fish on the lake, then walk back to our place in Nordkjosbotn. Recover in the sauna, eat a homemade dinner, and take the 16:20 bus back to Tromsø.

The beginner’s introduction teaches the basics before we head out.

  • Use a saw, axe and knife
  • Cook over the fire
  • Try snowshoeing and skiing

By snowmobile

Drive about 30 km into the mountains and sleep in tents. Fish for arctic char through the ice, or hunt grouse and arctic hare if you have a licence, or join the guide when he hunts. No mobile coverage, no electricity. Just wilderness.
